The benefits of urban open spaces for improving the quality of life and sustainability of cities are widely recognised. It is therefore desirable to develop methodologies to assess their level of efficiency for the establishment of new urban open spaces.

Therefore, the aim of this study is to classify such spaces using a methodology that integrates spatial analysis, configuration analysis and decision support to understand their complexity from a more advanced analytical perspective. The integrated combination of advanced GIS tools is a major step towards achieving useful and detailed results for urban open spaces by making them central, equipped, accessible, connected and easily walkable places.
