The Virtual Course on Sample Designs organized by Action against Hunger and taught by experts from GIS4tech, a Spin-Off of the University of Granada with funding from the Directorate General of Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid of the European Commission (ECHO) offers a practical and conceptual approach to the development of household-level surveys; it aims to contribute to building the competencies of professionals in humanitarian organisations, academia and public sector entities involved in the management of FNS information in Central America and Venezuela by providing them with the tools to develop rigorous statistical data analysis and to learn in a practical way the different types of statistical sampling techniques and strategies to work on their application in research settings.
The course addresses the foundation of the conceptual, practical and methodological concepts on probability sampling, sample design, calculation of the sample size and steps to be followed by sampling type, y en el se utiliza contenido adaptado y actualizado, se combinan recursos para facilitar el aprendizaje y se proporciona un certificado de asistencia/aprovechamiento de la formación. El curso está organizado para equipos técnicos de Acción Contra el Hambre Vinculados a la gestión y análisis de información en Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutricional.
OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE
To provide students with the conceptual, practical and methodological foundations for the statistically rigorous management of probability sampling applied to the field of research.

PRACTICAL ACTIVITY THAT CAN BE ASSESSED
Ronny Meza
Data sciencetist in Gis4Tech dedicated to the processing of data, building predictive models and algorithms of data mining through the use of programming tools and former data analysis and information integration professor at the Central University of Venezuela.
The methodology of the course is as follows online, the subjects will be explained in a clear and detailed way, by means of didactic manuals in multimedia format, live classes (videoconferences) to explain the key points of the syllabus, resolve doubts and clarify concepts, where teachers and students interact in a continuous exchange of knowledge and resolution of doubts.
It is proposed to study the contents in a synchronous way, allowing participants to learn at their own pace. The contents of the course are contained in a PDF document that can be downloaded by the students. Also, examples of solved exercises will be provided in relation to the topics taught throughout the course. In addition, there will be a tutoring system via chat activated within the learning platform. The course will be run by a teacher, who will answer any questions you may have about the course and who will liaise with the teachers for specific questions about each module.
The course presents a combination of varied resources with the aim of facilitating the learning of key concepts that allow the application of the knowledge acquired.
Students will be asked to submit an evaluable practical activity, which must be solved by the students within the established deadline, and which must be satisfactorily passed.
In the course material, students will find a set of data, which will be used with the aim of replicating the activities they will carry out in real cases. This will allow them to reinforce their knowledge and help them to clarify any doubts that may arise when replicating the practical exercise.
